Ward Thomas Deese

Ward Thomas Deese -- No. 3431831

Ward was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Deese Route 4 Monroe, N. C. and a nephew of Melvin Deese.

Ward was borned April 30, 1921 in Union County. He was 22 years 4 months 7 days old when death came to him.

He was killed overseas in North America August 5, 1943. His body was returned August 5, 1948. Ward was buried in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, N. C. August 8, 1948. He had a military funerial and Rev. Gleen Rushing and Rev. Taylor officiated. Ward also had a memorial service at Zoar Methodist Church the 1st Sunday in November 1943.

Ward was a member of Midway Methodist Church and he attended Beulah School.

He was not married and he was active in young people’s work

He was survived by his parents, four sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Eva Holt, Fort Mill S. C., Mrs. Lucy Ford, Route 4 Monroe N. C. Miss Dora Lee and Jamie Deese of the home; Mr. Millard Deese, Fort Mill, S.C.; Mr. Junior Deese, Route 4 Monroe N.C.; Mr. Garrison Deese of the home.

Ward was drafted and inducted at Fort Bragg August 3, 1942. He was in service only one year and two days. He was overseas about 7 months. He was in the invasion of North Africa and received the Purple Heart.

Ward lived his entire life around and in Monroe and was a true noble friend to all who knew him.
