Died: Hurtgen Forest, Germany December 3, 1944

Buried: U.S. Military Cemetery No. 1 at Henri-Chapell, Belgurm by a chaplain of his faith. His grave is No. 89 Row 5 Plot Y.

His body was brought home and buried here Nov. 23, 1947. A memorial service was at Mount Moriah with Rev. Douglas Smith of Westville, S. C., Rev. Townly Davis, and Rev. D. Furr of Kannapolis, N. C. officiating.

He attended school at Lanes Creek and Union High School. He was an active member of church and Sunday School at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

He was engaged and planned to be married after he got out of service.

Sisters: Mrs. Bill Carpenter, Mrs. Dewey Morgan; Kannapolis, N. C. Miss Lena Mills; Rock Hill, S. C. Mrs. Warren Smith of the home.

Brothers: Mr. J.D. Mills; Marshville, Ray and Charlie Mills of the home.

He was drafted and left for Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. on the 8th of Dec. 1943. He left there on the 15th of Dec. and arrived at Camp Fannin, Texas the 19th of Dec. It was here that he took 17 weeksoof basic training. On April 30th 1944 he came home for the first time for an 8 day delay en route. On the 9th of May he left for Camp Breckenridge, Ky. and on June 15th he was at Fort Meade, Md.
