Doyle David Montgomery

 

Born September 14, 1922, lost his life in the English Channel on the 28th day of April 1944.

Doyle was Petty Officer 1-C, U.S. Navy He received the Purple Heart for military merit. Also received several Campaign Medals.

Petty Officer Montgomery was a graduate of Bickett High School, attende Lenoir-Rhyne College three yearsw, enlisting in the Navy at the end of his third year. He was recruiting officer in Charlotte, then Raleigh and in October, 1943, he went to Naval Officers Training School, Columbia University, N.Y.and was assigned to active duty. He arrived in England the first week of April, 1944 and on the twenty-eighth his land ship tank was torpedoed by a sneak enemy submarine.
