William P. Mullis, Jr.
He enterd the army August 21, 1943, taking his seventeen weeks basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama with Co. D. 31st. Bn. After completeing this training hw was sent overseas, serving with Co. K. 179th. Infantry at Anzio, Italy. He was killed at this point on May 29, 1944, having just reached his nineteenth birthday. He was buried temporarily in Nettuna, Italy. The body was returned in August 1948 to the to the Waxhaw City Cemetery, where it now rests.
