CHARLES ROLAND PIERCE

He was born September 19, 1922. He was the son of V.T.E. Annie Harrel Pierce. He finished Union High School April, 1940.

On Oct. 28th he entered service as a Merchant Seaman in the Naval Reserve at Sheeps Head Bay N.Y. He took four months training, then went to Sea. On his first foreign trip the ship EDWARD B. DUDLEY, was lost. No one was rescured. It sailed from New York April 1st, April 11th it was sunk.

His serial No. is 65-9-18-55. He was born in Union County and lived his entire life here. He attended church at Phiadlphia Church. He was single. Charles had one brother, Harold Pierce and one sister, Vera Pierce, Long. He received Post Humasly two medals.

1st was: the Mariner Medal for Courage and Devotion.

2nd was: American Defence Service Medal.
