JOHN BUXTON RORIE, JR.

John Buxton Rorie Jr., son of John B. and Vivian Starnes Rorie of Monroe, N.C. Route 5. He was born November 24, 1922 and was killed in Bari Harbor Italy, when his ship the S.S. Joseph Wheeler was sunk by the enemy on December 2, 1943..

A memorial was held March 11, 1944 by his pastor C.G. Beaman, assisted by J. Keith Davis, principal of Prospect School, and his teachers through out High School.

He was a member of Prospect Methodist Church since he was 11 years old, and a member of the youth felloowship since he was 15 years old, and was an active member of Sunday School.

He was a graduate of Prospect High School, finishing with the class of 40. And completed a welding course at Southern Institute, Charlotte, N.C. in November 1941, and went to a Ship Yard and was employed there until he enlisted in the Merchant Marines in January of 1943. He went to England, North Africa, and Italy.

His surviving brothers are; Marion R., Robert P., Joe C., Anthony G., and David K. Rorie. His sisters are; Mrs. Ruth Richardson, Mrs. Frances Long, Mrs. Doris Richardson, Mrs. Peggy Dean, and Mrs. Marcia Mattox.
