Notes This building was destroyed by fire on December 22, 1927. The fire also destroyed The Monroe Hardware (7 W. Franklin) and the Union Drug Company (1 W. Franklin, Corner of Franklin & Hayne). Per The Monroe Journal, Dec. 23, 1927, page 1: Not a stick of property was saved from any of the three buildings and it is a question if any of the walls will be strong enough for further use. Addresses of the businesses are from "Monroe, North Carolina, City Directory" 1922-1923, Volume 1.
