Notes Tenney, a native of New England, won the Charlotte Observer Greater Charlotte and Myers Park Club Red Cross men's tennis championship on September 13, 1942. He defeated Teddy Keesler and earlier eliminated a former winner and favorite, Bobby Spurrier. Tenney began playing tennis at the age of eight. He once lost to Bobby Riggs in a "spectacular five-set struggle at Longwood Bowl, Mass., in 1938." from The Charlotte Observer, September 14, 1942.
