Description 
 Central United Methodist Church was organized as Monroe Methodist station on the Pleasant Grove circuit in 1844, the same year the town of Monroe was chartered.  The first church building was on the southeast corner of Church and Windsor Streets.  In 1873 they built on the northwest corner of Windsor and Hayne.
