Ney McNeely lost his life at age 32 on Dec. 30, 1915 off the Island of Crete when the ship on which he was traveling, the USS Persian was sunk probably by a German Submarine.

Erected by the "College Hill Camp No 310 WOW," Waxhaw, North Carolina.
The memorial was originally erected in the McNeely Family Cemetery.  In 1999 it was moved to a site at the Museum of the Waxhaws and Andrew Jackson Memorial and was rededicated on Sunday Oct. 10, 1999.
