Notes

Besides swimming facilities, the spot consisted of an amusement park with rides, a picnic area, a dance hall and concession stands.  Because the carousel came from Tonawanda, N.Y., that's how the lake got its name.  It was developed by J. T. Shute, Jr.  It first began as only a pond (swimming hole) and can be seen labeled as "Shute's Pond" on the 1914 Sanborn Map of Monroe.
